Lancashire Constabulary’s Front Counters is seeking a Front Counters Assistant to be based at East.

The purpose of this role is to act as an initial point of contact with members of the public visiting Police Stations within the Constabulary and deal with a wide variety of general enquiries.

Our Front Counter teams are the first face to face contact when visiting our Police Stations and are there ready to deal with whatever walks through the door.  This can range from taking reports of crimes, road traffic accidents and missing persons, to helping a victim of domestic abuse or someone during a mental health crisis.

As Front Counter Assistant you will oversee the opening and closing of the Front Counter at the published times and will be providing face to face assistance to members of the public, you’ll be a comforting presence in people’s hour of need, asking the right questions, listening for vital details and recording information will all be a part of your day-to-day role.  With the training we provide you’ll be able to risk assess and prioritise each incident, ensuring an appropriate response.

This is an extremely varied role and during the day you’ll deal with a wide range of queries, reports and requests, and with each interaction you’ll need to be able to remain calm and in control even in situations where the visitor could be angry and/or upset.

You’ll also be dealing with people answering their Bail, Sex Offender Registrations, checking driving documents, and making enquiries in relation to seized vehicles and authorising the release of these where appropriate.

Many people who attend Front Counter come in with questions that can be resolved there and then.  This could be through offering advice or signposting members of public to more appropriate agencies when it is not a matter dealt with by Police.  With each contact you’ll be managing expectations and advising what police can and cannot do.

There will also be occasions where you will be required to handle items of a sensitive nature, such as cash, drugs, firearms, therefore experience of working within a secure and confidential environment is crucial.

You will often be working with minimal supervision therefore the successful candidate should be able to demonstrate excellent organisation skills, including prioritising own workload, and possess a level of maturity.

The successful candidate will be required to work in accordance with the attached rota.

We offer a wide range of additional benefits such as 24 days annual leave, a flexi scheme, free onsite parking, site is accessible by public transport, Local Government Pension Scheme, onsite canteen, cycle to work, memberships to staff associations, option to join the Sports and Social Club who provide an onsite gym and other sports clubs and access to many local and national employee discounts.
