- JT - Custody Detention Officer - January 2025
Lancashire Constabulary is looking to recruit numerous Custody Detention Officers (CDOs).
Being a CDO you will be responsible for assisting in the secure detention, care and welfare of detained persons and their property, in accordance with the powers as detailed in the Police Reform Act 2002, ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.
As a CDO your job will be to keep people safe whilst in custody as well as delivering a competent and compassionate service 24/7.
Successful candidates will be expected to travel countywide, for training and to cover staff shortfalls, therefore a full driving licence is essential. You will also be expected to have access to a vehicle with business insurance to cover your working around the county. Expenses may be claimed when working away from your home station. You will be based at Police HQ Hutton during your 5 weeks training.
CDOs are also required to work a variety of shifts which include day and night shifts, weekends and bank holidays.(Including Christmas and New Year)
Candidates successful at the application and interview stage will be subject to background checks, including a medical assessment and security vetting.
All successful candidates will be required to undertake a compulsory five week initial training course running week days (Monday to Friday) from Monday 20th January 2025 up to and including Wednesday 19th February 2025. This will be held at Lancashire Police Headquarters, Hutton, Preston PR4 5TJ.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Interviews - 28th October 2024 - 1st November 2024.
Medicals - starting 4th November 2024.
Intake start date - Monday 20th January 2025.
Initial training course - 20th January 2025 - 19th February 2025. The courses are held at Lancashire Police Headquarters, Hutton, Preston.
After this initial training there is additional operational training and a period of shadowing an experienced custody detention officer in a police custody suite. Please note weekend working and shift allowance will not be paid whilst carrying out the training.
The successful candidates will be required to work in accordance with the attached rota.
