Lancashire Constabulary’s Mounted Team is seeking a Stable Assistant to be based at Lindle Lane. 

The purpose of this role is to provide a grooming, exercising and cleaning service to enable the Mounted Branch to achieve its maximum policing potential and to train horses to Policing standards. Some of the key responsibilities will require you:

  • To be responsible for the welfare of all horses, undertaking any action required i.e. administering medication, cleaning and dressing wounds/injuries and documenting relevant information. 
  • To groom and prepare horses for patrol  
  • To be responsible for one thematic area of the day to day running of the branch, i.e. vets, physio, saddler, invoices, Farrier, feed merchants.  
  • To hay up, skip out and refit rugs. 
  • Exercising and riding horses, including younger horses. 
  • To maintain Mounted complex to a high standard at all times.  
  • To prepare feeds, as instructed, hay up horses and maintain feed and forage barn to a high standard at all times. 
  • To clean and maintain kit (saddles, rugs, boots, bridles etc.)  
  • To use machinery/equipment in order to complete daily duties, e.g. tractor, horse walker, electric fencing and garden maintenance equipment.   
  • As an Intermediate level rider, be responsible for preparing progressive plans to school, train and develop young horses as directed by Line Management.  
  • To check and secure premises. 
  • To be aware and understand all emergency procedures, fire drill, panic alarms and health and safety regulations.  
  • To demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering a high standard of service with an emphasis on quality at all times 
  • To carry out any other duties which are consistent with the nature, responsibilities and grading of the post.
